Years of playing sport and weight-training had left Matt inflexible and riddled with aches and pains. Guided towards yoga as a solution, he resisted for as long as possible, before overcoming his fear and going to a class. Despite being the only guy in a room full of strong and flexible ladies, he loved it and immediately felt the benefit.
Fast forward to now and yoga has become a passion for Matt. He has been to India and Sri Lanka to study and practice, and is now dedicated to helping others discover and integrate the positive effects that it had for him. Recently returning to Folkestone after living abroad, he fell in love at first class with Hotpod Yoga and is really excited to now be a part of the teaching team. He feels that yoga is for everyone, no matter what size, shape, or gender, and loves how the friendly and supportive atmosphere at Hotpod inspires all kinds of people to take that first (but often hardest) step onto the mat.
Kariss began to practice yoga alongside her regular gym routine, initially thinking it would just help her get a good stretch. What she found was so much more, she fell in love with the practice and the benefits it offered, finding for the first time she was able to connect to herself and begin to find a self-acceptance that she’d never felt before. She loved it so much, she enrolled on her teacher training so that she could share her passion with others.
Having travelled to the Himalayas in India to train as a yoga teacher, Ally began teaching in the Spring of 2014. Her style encourages students to achieve their own levels of confidence in their practice, recognising each student as individual and working with them to achieve whatever it is that they may be looking to gain from yoga. Ally is a keen yogi, vegetarian, world traveller, animal lover, mum and classic rock enthusiast.
Vinyasa Flow & Yin RYT200 qualified yoga teacher with a back ground in dance and the healing arts. Renata trained with the School of Sacred Arts in Bali, Indonesia after having practised yoga for some 20 years in London, including hot yoga styles. Yoga has taken her to some of the hottest climates around the globe, teaching in SE Asia and Australia. In addition to teaching yoga she is also a qualified Hypnotherapist with a keen interest in meditation and alternative health. Renata’s own yoga practise began over two decades ago in response to a back injury. Through yoga she gained full recovery and has since continued to study the mind-body connection through her own work with self and students. Renata’s aim is for students to meet their bodies and explore their own edges on the mat in order to find inner peace and contentment in daily life.
Fitness has always been a big part of Danielle’s life, having played for many years for Folkestone Optimists. But after falling in love with yoga (specifically Hotpod Yoga!), she has now hung up her stick to focus on her yoga practice and teaching. She found that yoga bought so many benefits to her life that she felt compelled to train as a teacher. After completing her training in India at Earth Yoga Village, she couldn’t wait to return home and share her passion and knowledge with others.
Having practiced yoga for over ten years, Gemma recently qualified as a teacher so that she can share her love and passion for yoga with others. Gemma trained in Bali with Cat Kabira, and is qualified to teach Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga. She particularly enjoys working with the breath to aid alignment and to quieten the mind, and the subtle body energetic systems. Attending her classes will leave you feeling refreshed and restored, and with a sense of inner peace.
After practising yoga for over a decade, Beth decided to deepen her practice and train to become a teacher. Having tried various styles, it was the fluid movements of Vinyasa Flow yoga that just felt right and she graduated from a yearlong course in 2015. Her teaching style is open and inclusive with an emphasis on exploring the connection between breath and movement, effort and stillness. She aims for you to leave her classes with a sense of calm, ease and connection.
Siobhon has been practicing yoga for 15 years and finds this has been a great balance between her job as a freelance make-up artist. She discovered hot yoga about 12 years ago in London and really enjoys the benefits of the heat that you feel when you practice this style of yoga. Three years ago she decided to go to India to do her yoga teacher training and now teaches both Vinyasa and Yin style yogas locally. Her teaching style focuses on being kind to what works for you and your body.
Lara is a Triyoga Instructor with a 15 year yoga practise and 10 years teaching experience. Lara’s style of teaching promotes flexibility and strength with safe body alignment. Her classes provide a challenging dynamic yoga experience to discover a students full potential.
Ruth was born and brought up in Folkestone, but spent time away studying, travelling and working. Having made a life changing move from London to India in 2010, she embarked on a career change away from the IT industry to focus on her passion for health and fitness. She completed her yoga teacher training in 2012 and has been enjoying sharing her love for yoga with others ever since. She is also the founder of Hotpod Yoga Folkestone and is extremely happy to be bringing this experience to as many local people as she can, with classes which are challenging but light hearted, welcoming and fun.
