The days may be dark, but our studios are bright. As we head into the new year, we’re highlighting how Shennon, Hotpod Yoga Southampton Franchisee looks after her own, and her communities mental health with the help of her amazing team.
What’s something you do to take care of your mental health throughout the day-to-day of running your studio?
I focus on taking deep breathes, running (and getting muddy), joining in for at least 3x classes a week in the pod, going in the sauna, getting coffee with friends, and watching an hour of tv everyday to unwind after work. I also like to spend time with fellow teachers, who’ve become friends. Connecting with the community makes me happy, as it feels like I’ve got energy I can share.
As a yoga teacher and studio owner, have you noticed how you affect your communities well-being and mental health?
Our customers share how they feel the sense of relief after a practice. They feel like they are empowered to do whatever it takes to make things work in their daily life. Often, they share how our voices would be in their heads when they are working through a challenge – it makes us laugh… as we don’t necessarily practice what we preach. However, we do try! Our customers share what’s going on in their lives, and also show gratitude to the team by treating them to homemade cakes, a bar of chocolate, or a cuppa.
What does the partnership with CALM mean to you personally as a studio owner?
I’ve always been an advocate of corporate social responsibility. Personally, I feel so fortunate to have this platform to do greater good. As being part of the a Hotpod community – I’m extremely proud of this collaboration as it places us on the ‘charity map’.
In one sentence, how has being a studio owner shaped your mental health journey?
As they say…
the greatest gift you can give someone is your time- making shared moments invaluable expressions of love, presence, and appreciation, proving relationships matter more than words by giving a piece of your life that can’t be returned.
& as my husband would say… my antidote to anything in life is “practice yoga!”
